EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) - Two relatives of an 85-year-old Edwardsville woman who officials say died of neglect have pleaded guilty in an elder abuse case.
An investigation was launched after first responders in February 2011 reported poor conditions in Maryann Paproth’s home and suspicious wounds caused by skin ulcers and dehydration. Investigators determined the woman had not received appropriate food, water, hygienic care or medical treatment. They said those factors led to her Feb. 24, 2011 death.
Paproth’s daughter was charged in January 2012 with criminal abuse or neglect of the elderly.
Her son, Jacob Dean, and his wife, Kayleen Dean, also were charged in the case. The Belleville News-Democrat (https://bit.ly/1DjaD30 ) reports the pair pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count each of criminal neglect.
