An Afghan soldier killed three American contractors and wounded a fourth Thursday in an insider attack at the Kabul airport.

A U.S. Air Force official told Reuters that an investigation has been opened into the attack. The officer asked not to be named because he was not authorized to give statements to the media.

“It is unclear yet why he shot these advisers and no one else was there to tell us the reason,” the officer said, Reuters reported.

U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Harold Greene was killed in a similar attack at a military training facility in Kabul on Aug. 5. The two-star general from New York was the most senior American officer killed in an attack since 9/11. He was a 34-year veteran of the U.S. military.
