CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina coach Roy Williams says freshman Joel Berry II will miss the No. 13 Tar Heels’ game at No. 10 Louisville on Saturday and likely Monday’s home matchup with No. 2 Virginia due to a groin injury.

The reserve point guard has missed five straight games. He originally was injured around Christmas, then re-aggravated the injury in practice Jan. 13. Williams said Friday that Berry recently began non-contact practice drills.

The Tar Heels (17-4, 7-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) are thin in the backcourt after losing freshman Theo Pinson indefinitely to a broken left foot last week. Preseason all-American Marcus Paige is also playing with plantar fasciitis in his right foot.

UNC has won 11 of 12 since losing to top-ranked Kentucky, including this month’s first meeting with the Cardinals.
