A Wisconsin man was hospitalized Friday due to injuries he suffered when a doe attacked him after he had shot it with an arrow, police said.

The 72-year-old man was transported by ambulance Friday evening to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, said Sheriff’s Officer Jeff Bonack, according to the Fond du Lac Reporter.

Police said the man, who was not identified, was crossbow hunting on the Peebles Trail in the town of Taycheedah. He wounded the female deer with an arrow and went back out later to track the animal, Officer Bonack said.

“Apparently the man was going through some thick brush and the deer leaped out and went after him,” he said. “The doe struck him in the leg with her head.”

Police said the doe apparently got away. The man’s condition is unknown.
