MANVEL, Texas (AP) - Authorities say three high school students died when their car went out of control, hit a culvert and burst into flames in a Houston-area wreck.

Names of the teens weren’t immediately released but the Alvin Independent School District says counselors were available Thursday at Manvel High School.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says the one-vehicle crash happened Wednesday afternoon near Manvel, about 15 miles south of Houston.

DPS says the 18-year-old driver and his two passengers, 17-year-old girls, were dead at the scene.

Autopsies have been ordered.
