ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - An Arkansas woman has been convicted of methamphetamine and cocaine trafficking charges in New Mexico.
A U.S. District Court jury in Albuquerque on Wednesday returned the guilty verdicts against 47-year-old Sheila Villegas of Manila, Arkansas, following a two-day trial.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Vllegas was arrested last April after an Albuquerque police officer conducted a routine traffic stop of her vehicle and that a subsequent search found 20 bundles containing 20 pounds of methamphetamine and 700 grams of cocaine.
According to the office, a federal investigator testified that Villegas acknowledged that she was transporting drugs from California to Arkansas in exchange for $10,000 plus $500 in travel expenses.
The office says Villegas’ sentencing hasn’t been scheduled.
