FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) - A Farmington police report says San Juan County jail inmates were drinking alcohol and some may have been snorting prescription medication the night of a disturbance involving guards and 30 inmates.

According to authorities, the Dec. 28 disturbance began when two inmates began fighting, a guard tried to break it up and the guard was attacked by other inmates. Four inmates face charges in the incident.

According to the Daily Times (https://goo.gl/qc6Ajf ), the police report says all of the pod’s inmates were drinking alcohol, which Jail Administrator Tom Havel says was likely made in the jail and not smuggled in.

The report also says several inmates are suspected of snorting anti-depression medication prescribed to inmates.

County officials are also reviewing the incident.

Police and sheriff’s deputies helped quell the unrest.
