SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The Utah Supreme Court says a consulting doctor isn’t responsible for the actions of a man who fatally shot his wife after a nurse prescribed him a mix of drugs.

Lawyers for the children of David and Kristy Ragsdale claimed the doctor should have done a better job supervising the nurse practitioner, but the high court disagreed Friday.

David Ragsdale pleaded guilty to the 2008 murder outside a Lehi church and is serving a life sentence. He claimed he would not have killed his wife if he hadn’t been taking the mix of drugs. The high court did allow a lawsuit against the nurse to go forward, and it’s now been settled.

Lawyers for doctor Hugo Rodier and the Ragsdale children did not immediately return calls seeking comment Friday.
