NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - The Port of Virginia has set a record for container volume.
The port says container traffic by volume was up 7.6 percent in 2014 over the previous year. The unit of measure for container volume is a TEU, and the port said it moved 169,000 more TEUs than it did in 2013.
TEU stands for total equivalent unit.
The port finished 2014 strongly, with a jump of 12.3 percent in container volume in December.
All segments of the port’s business - truck, rail and barge - were up in 2014.
The port will release its financial results for December at a Jan. 27 meeting.
