AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) - Sharks are in the water at a new aquarium that opens this month at a shopping mall in suburban Detroit.
The sharks arrived Thursday at Sea Life Michigan Aquarium in Auburn Hills. The 35,000-square-foot attraction opens Jan. 29 at Great Lakes Crossing Outlets.
The three blacknose sharks, two bonnethead sharks and one nurse shark were transported from Florida to Michigan overnight by truck.
Plans call for displays of diverse marine life. A tropical ocean tank with a walk-through underwater tunnel is planned along with hands-on areas and displays of Great Lakes marine creatures. Organizers say that the aquarium will have 5,000 creatures.
Michigan has a number of aquariums, including one on Detroit’s Belle Isle.
