KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) - Concerns over the potential cancellation of Independence Day celebrations have been washed away after crews worked around the clock to clear floodwater from a Kalamazoo baseball field.

The Kalamazoo Gazette (https://bit.ly/1CaeX92 ) reports that the holiday fireworks and Kalamazoo Growlers baseball games at Homer Stryker field will continue as planned this weekend.

Parks and baseball club officials were worried the field wouldn’t be ready for play by July 4 after the Kalamazoo River overflowed its banks and caused flooding last weekend. But the weather cooperated as workers toiled to ready Homer Stryker field for the baseball games and the Growlers Red, White & BOOM Night.

Growlers vice president Brian Colopy says the community came together to make the games happen.
