FLORENCE, Ore. (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard and others are cleaning up a diesel spill at the Port of Siuslaw’s commercial marina.

Port of Siuslaw Manager Bob Forsythe tells KCST radio it’s unknown just how much diesel leaked Friday morning from the 50-foot fishing vessel Summer Breeze. The Coast Guard estimates 20 gallons.

Forsythe says it appears the vessel’s fuel tank or fuel lines leaked into the bilge. The oil-contaminated water was then pumped into the basin which soon reeked of diesel.

Cleanup will continue through the day. The vessel is owned by Greg Helmer. He and his wife Barbara live aboard the boat.
