BIDDEFORD, Maine (AP) - An attorney representing a former Biddeford police sergeant accused of sexual molestation says the firm must drop the sergeant as a client under Maine Rules of Professional Conduct.

The Portland Press Herald (https://bit.ly/1IPsS5P ) reports Kennebunk lawyer Gene Libby says the firm must stop representing Stephen Dodd. He is declining to comment further on the case. Dodd is under investigation by the state attorney general due to allegations he molested a Biddeford teenager more than a decade ago.

The Press Herald reports Dodd’s whereabouts are unknown and repeated efforts to reach him in recent months have not succeeded.

Maine’s rules of conduct say a lawyer can terminate representation for reasons including not being paid or having a fundamental disagreement with the client.
