MACON, Ga. (AP) - Investigators in Macon searched for a suspected burglar at a church that earlier burned.
The Telegraph of Macon (https://bit.ly/1SdwZt4 ) reports Bibb County deputies investigated a report of a suspicious person Friday morning at God’s Power Church of Christ. A federal official from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also arrived at the church to assist.
Authorities said they suspect a burglar might have been trying to take copper wiring from the church. Church member Gladys Reeves said investigators recommended that the congregation lock the fencing in the back of the property.
A fire on June 23 severely damaged the church. Investigators have ruled the blaze was intentionally set. However, they found no evidence suggesting it was a hate crime.
