ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York’s seatbelt campaign will be active in state parks this summer.

State Police and State Parks Police say a stepped up enforcement and educational campaign encouraging people to buckle up in parks begins Saturday. Officers also want to encourage the proper use of child safety seats.

Police say they have noticed lower seatbelt and child restraint use around state parks that are located near cities. Officers want to raise compliance rates.

Motor vehicle crashes remain the leading cause of death for children ages one through 13.

The enforcement period runs through July 26.
