ETNA, Pa. (AP) - Authorities in western Pennsylvania say one woman died and her sister was injured in a fire overnight near Pittsburgh.
Fire crews in Allegheny County were called to the blaze in the Etna home shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday.
Fire chief Greg Porter said the women were on the second floor, but one “narrowly escaped,” possibly out of the back door. She was taken to a hospital for treatment of moderate smoke inhalation.
Porter said fire crews found her sister at the top of the steps on the second floor, where the surviving victim reported having last seen her. The fire chief said “She thought her sister was right behind her on the way out.”
Officials called the home a total loss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
