PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Members of the local Rotary Club will be joining with the Rhode Island chapter of the American Red Cross to provide disaster relief.
Members of Rotary District 7950, which covers Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts, will be trained in disaster response and shelter management.
Warwick Rotary President Edward McDonough says the partnership reflects the Rotary’s commitment to service.
American Red Cross Senior Director of Emergency Services Elizabeth McDonald says the partnership is a win for both organizations.
McDonald says the American Red Cross responds to more than 200 disasters a year in Rhode Island.
She says the majority of the responses are to residential fires but that there have been larger responses in recent years to major storms.
