BALTIMORE (AP) - A 20-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after Baltimore police say he stabbed an officer after a domestic dispute inside a student apartment building.

Police say James Goss stabbed the officer several times in the face and upper body early Saturday morning. The officer was taken to a trauma center, where he was in serious but stable condition.

The stabbing occurred in the lobby of the Varsity Apartments, which houses University of Baltimore students. Police say a security officer called 911 after being threatened. Police say Goss and his girlfriend had argued over the keys to her apartment.

Police say Goss punched the woman in the face and placed her in a chokehold. A university spokesman says the victim is a student but Goss is not.
