NEBO, N.C. (AP) - The National Forest Service has closed a portion of the Mountains-to-Sea trail in McDowell County because of a small wildfire,

The Asheville Citizen-Times reports (https://avlne.ws/1LipdPF) National Forest Service personnel estimate the fire to be 2 acres. It was burning Saturday on forest service land near Bald Knob. The cause of the fire is under investigation, though Forest Service staff said they did not think it was intentionally set.

Firefighters believe the blaze was started by lightning during recent storms.

Officials say the trail will be temporarily closed between the footbridge over the North Fork of the Catawba River and Dobson Knob Road, which is also Forest Service Road 106.
