Police: Girl, 5, dies after drowning in LI swimming pool

ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) - A 5-year-old girl has died after drowning in a backyard pool on Long Island.

Suffolk County Police say Sunday the young girl was found unresponsive in the pool at a home on Columbine Avenue in Islip (EYE’-slihp).

It happened around 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police say several other people were in the pool when 5-year-old Carissa Walker was found unconscious below the surface.

The young girl was pulled out of the water and bystanders began CPR. She died a short time later at a nearby hospital.

Police say there was a party at the home at the time and many people were in the yard.

An investigation is still underway.
