FALFURRIAS, Texas (AP) - Border Patrol agents have rescued 11 immigrants from a closed truck-trailer that was hauling bags of onions through South Texas.

Agency officials say the individuals, believed to be in the U.S. illegally, were discovered early Thursday in a search at the Falfurrias (fal-FYOO’-ree-uhs) checkpoint.

A Border Patrol inspection dog alerted officers to something in the trailer. The immigrants were concealed between pallets, with no means of escape in case of emergency.

Authorities say all 11 individuals declined medical attention. Details weren’t immediately released on their custody status.

The driver was detained pending possible charges. The rig was seized.

The National Weather Service says temperatures were in the 70s early Thursday in the area.
