DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) - Dothan police are investigating after they say a toddler nearly drowned in a small plastic swimming pool.

Dothan Police Lt. Scott Long, who supervises the criminal investigation division, tells the Dothan Eagle (https://bit.ly/1IvOWSR ) officers responded to a report of an unresponsive child found in a small children’s swimming pool at a home around 8:10 p.m. Wednesday.

Long said the 16-month-old was taken to a local hospital and then transferred to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham. Long said the child was in serious condition.



Long said the child was at the home of a family friend.

Long said the investigation into what happened and how the child ended up in the pool.
