NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Police in New Orleans just got a pay raise.
The city says the second of three pay raises scheduled for police officers went into effect Wednesday. The next is set for Jan. 1.
Each of the three raises is for 5 percent and, when compounded, will total 15.8 percent.
Mayor Mitch Landrieu says police deserve the raises, which will be part of an effort to boost officer retention and recruitment.
