PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say a 4-year-old girl is hospitalized after being wounded by an apparently stray bullet while playing at an apartment complex.

Sgt. Vince Lewis said the girl is in stable condition and that her wound isn’t life-threatening.

Lewis says circumstances of the Wednesday night shooting remain unclear but that witnesses reported seeing two people who don’t live at the complex just before the shooting occurred.

Lewis says the shots were fired as the non-residents left the property.
