STOCKTON, Calif. (AP) - A Stockton Police Department K-9 died after the air conditioning in a police cruiser failed.

KGO-TV reports (https://abc7ne.ws/1NyeNcJ ) that the dog, named Nitro, was left in the car when officers took another police dog to catch a suspect. The air conditioning in the K-9 unit stopped working, causing Nitro to overheat.

The police department is offering to receive funds for donations in memory of Nitro. They will use the money to acquire a new police K9 and build an agility course in their fallen furry friend’s memory.
