EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - The new University of Oregon president has officially taken the lead of the school, making him the university’s 18th president in its 139-year history.

The Register-Guard reports (https://bit.ly/1emuyY0 ) Michael Schill started Wednesday and has taken the presidency after serving as the dean of two prestigious law schools for 11 years.

Schill plans to begin filling the university’s top positions after recent resignations of several vice presidents and deans. Schill also expects to start fundraising to prepare for academic upgrades that have been outlined by the board of trustees.

Board Chairman Chuck Lillis says Schill has “unquestionable intellect and charisma.”

In a letter to the university community, Schill said he is excited to start the job and become a Duck.

Schill has replaced former President Michael Gottfredson, who resigned in August.
