WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - A Winston-Salem police officer is facing charged after a 68-year-old man died when his pickup truck collided with a police cruiser.
Local media outlets report 47-year-old Sgt. John William Leone was charged Thursday with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
The crash occurred on May 13 on the north side of the city near Wake Forest University. A summons says Leone failed to stop at an intersection and yield the right-of-way while facing a traffic signal.
Leone’s police cruiser collided with a pickup truck driven by Alan Edward Dunnagan. Leone suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Dunnagan died on May 23 from injuries suffered in the crash.
