FORT JACKSON, S.C. (AP) - Fort Jackson is celebrating the country’s independence with fireworks, cannon salutes and activities for folks of all ages.

The installation’s celebrations begin Friday at 8 a.m. with a 5-kilometer walk and run at Hilton Field. There will also be a golf tournament, bowling, miniature golf and water park events. Some fees may apply.

At 4 p.m., there will be children’s rides and games at Hilton Field. At 9 p.m. a drum and cannon salute to each of the 50 states takes place, followed by an Army Band concert and fireworks display.



Members of the public are invited. Those older than 16 must possess a valid state or government issued identification. Vehicle drivers must show a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and registration.
