WEST BRANCH, Mich. (AP) - Two former high school football players have been charged in connection with the reported rape of two women at a hunting cabin last November.

WNEM-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1gq3j0h ) Thursday that 18-year-old Travis Shoemaker and 19-year-old Jens Gillings were arraigned Friday on first-degree criminal sexual conduct charges in Ogemaw County District Court in West Branch.

Gillings graduated in 2014 from Whittemore-Prescott High School in Whittemore, north of Saginaw. Shoemaker graduated in May.

The school’s former head football coach and several players are listed in a warrant as witnesses.

Gillings and Shoemaker face Aug. 13 hearings. Their preliminary examinations are scheduled Aug. 20.

Shoemaker’s attorney, Shannon Smith, says “there’s a lot more to this story” of the sexual assaults.

The Associated Press left a message Thursday seeking comment from Gillings’ attorney.
