SHELBY, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say a man charged in the death of a Shelby County woman has been extradited from California.

Shelby County Sheriff’s officials said in an emailed statement Thursday that 19-year-old Demarcus Lemar Means of Columbiana has been released from the Los Angeles County Jail and is back in Alabama.

Means was arrested in the death of 18-year-old Haleigh Danielle Greene of Shelby. Green’s body was found near her car in a wooded area near Columbiana on July 11. An arrest warrant for Means was issued four days later.

It’s unclear how Means made it to California.

Authorities say Means is being held in the St. Clair County Jail because of the impact the case has had on the community and court cases will be held in Shelby County.
