SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Police in Savannah say they’ve determined that the deaths of a mother and her adult son were a murder-suicide.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police said in a statement late Wednesday that the bodies found in a house on April 18 have been positively identified as 80-year-old Patricia Witherspoon; and her son, 50-year-old Ralph Terrill.

Police said this week that their investigation confirmed that Terrill killed his mother and then took his own life in the house they shared in the Windsor Forest neighborhood.

Police say the two had been dead for a “considerable amount of time” before a lawn care worker alerted police to an odor coming from the house.
