HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - A new police chief will be sworn in Monday at Jackie Dole Sherrill Community Center in downtown Hattiesburg.

The Hattiesburg American reports (https://hatne.ws/1H9JhvQ) Anthony Parker will take the oath of office as top administrator of the Hattiesburg Police Department during a ceremony scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m.

Parker will replace Frazier Bolton, who had spent nearly eight years in the post before relinquishing day-to-day duties in February at the behest of Mayor Johnny DuPree.

Parker has 33 years of law enforcement experience, including 28 years with the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

After retiring from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, he joined the Crystal Springs Police Department in 2009, moving up from patrolman to sergeant to lieutenant before becoming chief in October 2013.
