HAVERHILL, N.H. (AP) - The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office has cleared two officers in the fatal shooting of a man in Bath earlier this month.
The attorney general’s report, released Friday, says still shots captured from the body cameras worn by the Haverhill officers who shot 42-year-old Hagan Esty-Lennon of Canterbury show that he lunged at them with a knife before the first bullet struck him.
The investigation determined that Officers Ryan Jarvis and Greg Collins were justified in using deadly force against Esty-Lennon on July 6, as the man staggered from a car accident with a self-inflicted knife wound in his chest.
Investigators say Esty-Lennon’s landlady told them he seemed to be suffering from hallucinations in the weeks before the shooting.
Prosecutors say they will release the body cam videos Wednesday.
