SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The spokesman for Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker has been placed on administrative leave while officials investigate online comments that he posted anonymously.

The Salt Lake City Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1hbaIAF ) Art Raymond admitted he was behind the comments posted on Salt Lake Tribune stories under the pseudonym “WhiskeyPete.” The online comments had criticized Becker’s campaign rivals.

Raymond says he wrote the comments from a computer at his city office, which could be in violation of city policy. Raymond says fellow city employees and those working on Becker’s re-election campaign had no part in the posts.

Becker’s chief of staff, David Everitt, says an investigation will determine if Raymond’s actions violated city policy and state law.

Raymond’s alias was discovered July 23 after a reader flagged his post as objectionable.
