BEAVER DAM, Ariz. (AP) - Mohave County authorities say a police dog is expected to recover after being hit in the head several times with a rock by a fleeing suspect.

The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office said Friday that a K-9 partner, Ecko, received stitches for head lacerations.

The incident occurred Thursday afternoon when 911 calls reported a van driving recklessly on Interstate 15 in Beaver Dam.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop and learned the car was stolen.

They attempted to arrest 50-year-old Carl Eaves, of Missouri, but Eaves allegedly kicked a deputy and ran.

They say Ecko pursued Eaves and continued to bite him, even while being struck.

Eaves was treated at a Mesquite, Nevada hospital for bite wounds and booked into jail.

He faces charges of animal cruelty, aggravated assault and resisting arrest.
