DORR TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A 32-year-old man will stand trial in the shooting deaths of a one-time girlfriend and her two children.
The Grand Rapids Press reports Monday (https://bit.ly/1JQuPgN ) that Corey LaValley was found competent last week for trial on murder, arson and gun charges after a psychiatric examination.
The bodies of 33-year-old Debra Sheppard; her 12-year-old daughter, Emma McComber; and 10-year-old son, Corey LaValley Jr. were found March 10 in their Dorr Township trailer home, southwest of Grand Rapids. Corey LaValley Jr. was LaValley’s and Sheppard’s son.
The trailer was set on fire after they were slain. LaValley was arrested 65 miles away in Eaton County.
Authorities have said Corey LaValley and Sheppard had dated and lived together.
