DALLAS (AP) - Dallas police shot and killed a 59-year-old man registered as a sex offender after the man brandished a revolver and refused to disarm.
The shooting happened about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at a street corner in the North Oak Cliff section of Dallas, about a mile southwest of downtown.
Police say a tip led officers to Joe Cody, who was sought on a parole violation. Assistant Chief Randy Blankenbaker says that when four officers approached, including three from the sexual offender’s unit, the man brandished a handgun and refused demands to disarm. So all four officers opened fire, killing the man.
Blankenship says it’s not yet clear if the man fired any shots. His identity hasn’t been released.
