DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - Duke says two injured backups will serve as undergraduate assistant coaches and has awarded a freshman quarterback a scholarship.
Coach David Cutcliffe said Wednesday that defensive end Michael Mann and offensive tackle Kameron Schroeder have both suffered unspecified upper body injuries that will end their college playing careers.
Cutcliffe also awarded a scholarship to freshman Daniel Jones.
Mann had four tackles in a total of seven games in 2013-14. Schroeder redshirted last season and was listed as a backup this year.
The moves came a day after Duke announced the end of sixth-year senior linebacker Kelby Brown’s playing career with a torn knee ligament. Brown also will be a student assistant.
Jones threw for nearly 7,000 yards and accounted for 98 touchdowns in three years at Charlotte Latin High School.
