A Rhode Island veterans’ cemetery worker has agreed to plead guilty in federal court to stealing gravestones and other items from the Rhode Island Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.

Kevin Maynard, 59, of Charlestown, is accused of removing worn or broken grave markers from the cemetery and bringing them to his residence, the Justice Department said.

On April 23, investigators discovered at least 150 veterans’ grave markers being used as flooring for a shed and two makeshift garages, according to DOJ, and they also located additional markers and a box of American flags allegedly stolen from the cemetery, court documents said.

Mr. Maynard is scheduled to be arraigned in U.S. District Court on July 13.
