COLLEGE PARK, Ga. (AP) - A man sought by police in the death of a 16-year-old girl who was killed by a stray bullet has been apprehended and faces charges.
Fulton County Jail records show that 23-year-old Marcel Smith faces felony involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct charges. The records do not indicate whether he has an attorney who could be reached for comment.
Police say Rasheedah Evans was sitting on a couch inside a home in College Park, southwest of Atlanta, when the bullet came through the wall and struck her on Saturday.
Investigators have said they believe the gunshot was the result of celebratory gunfire during the Fourth of July holiday weekend, and that the girl’s death was unintentional.
Police had been seeking Smith, whom they called a “person of interest,” since the shooting.
