SOUTH ROCKWOOD, Mich. (AP) - A man and the mother of a southeast Michigan toddler have been charged in connection with the 2-year-old boy’s beating death.

Roger Schear and Jordan Henry were being held in the Monroe County Jail and are expected to be arraigned Thursday. Both were arrested Wednesday.

Schear is charged with open murder and child abuse. Henry was Caius Henry’s mother. She is charged with second-degree child abuse.

Police say officers were called in April to apartments in Monroe County’s South Rockwood on a report of a medical emergency involving a child. Caius died the following day at a hospital. His death was declared a homicide caused by blunt force trauma to the head.
