WALNUTPORT, Pa. (AP) - Police in eastern Pennsylvania say a 4-year-old child’s leg was severed when he slid on wet grass underneath a running lawnmower.

The Express-Times of Easton reported Thursday (https://bit.ly/1LULcLN ) that the mower operator was backing up when the incident occurred.

The paper says the child was taken by helicopter for treatment at about 7 p.m. Wednesday. His leg was severed at the thigh.

Lehigh Township Police aren’t identifying the boy or the person who was on the lawn tractor.
