NAPA, Calif. (AP) - Relatives of a 3-year-old girl beaten to death in Northern California last year have filed a lawsuit accusing Napa officials of failing to fully investigate reports of child abuse.

The Napa Valley Register reports Monday (https://bit.ly/1FqfSOC ) Kayleigh Slusher’s father and her paternal grandparents have filed a lawsuit in federal court in San Francisco.

They seek unspecified damages against the city of Napa, Napa Police, Napa County Child Welfare Services, two police officers, a social worker and others.

Napa Police found the child dead last year in the apartment where she lived with her mother, Sara Krueger, and her mother’s boyfriend, Ryan Warner. Krueger and Warner were charged with murder and assault.

The child’s grandmother says in the lawsuit she reported multiple times to authorities that her granddaughter was not being fed or cared for and faced possibly physical abuse from the couple.
