NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP) - Police say a man has been charged after a 3-year-old child was found wandering barefoot in a neighborhood Sunday night near New Castle.

The News Journal reports (https://delonline.us/1Qkc3iY ) Officer First Class Tracey Duff says police were called to the Endinburgh Villas neighborhood by residents who found the toddler.

Duff says the girl was able to point to a home on Helmsdale Circle, saying a relative was sleeping there on a couch.

Duffy says officers contacted the man, who said he was babysitting the child and had been looking for her for about half an hour.

Duffy says the man was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child. He was released on $2,000 bail and was ordered to have no contact with the toddler and her family.
