ST. LOUIS (AP) - An 18-year-old is in critical condition after being shot during an attempted robbery in St. Louis.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1csGWo4 ) reports the incident happened early Saturday. Police say the victim told them he was standing behind a man at a gas station when the man turned around and announced a robbery.

The teen said he refused to turn over property, and a struggle ensued. According to authorities, the suspect pulled out a gun and fired several shots. Police say the victim was shot once, in the neck.

According to police, the suspect fled in a black Monte Carlo with a red racing stripe. He is described as a 5-foot-10-inch black male with a thin build and cornrows. Police say he was wearing a red shirt and black shorts at the time.
