PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The governor has amended her proposed toll on large commercial vehicles, removing class 6 and 7 trucks from the list.

Gov. Gina Raimondo announced Tuesday the amendment to her $4.8 billion infrastructure plan, called RhodeWorks.

The amendment would also allow the state Department of Transportation to limit the assessment of tolls to once per location, per day in each direction.

The amendment comes on the heels of criticism from the Rhode Island Trucking Association, which has said the governor’s proposal unfairly targets the trucking industry.

The tolls would only apply to large commercial trucks, not passenger vehicles.

Officials say the tolls would pay for a $700 million revenue bond to repair the state’s deteriorating bridges. Between 17 and 20 gantries will be located at bridges along the state’s five highways.
