BRANDON, Miss. (AP) - Bond has been denied an Ocean Springs man charged with two counts of capital murder in the deaths of his grandparents.
According to multiple media reports, Zachary Alexander Stanford appeared Thursday in Rankin County Court. Judge Kent McDaniel ordered Stanford to undergo a drug and alcohol assessment and a mental evaluation before his next court appearance on July 14.
Stanford was assigned a public defender.
Authorities say 79-year-old Robert Faries and his wife, 77-year-old Peggy, were found dead on Tuesday inside their home on Mississippi Highway 469 north of Pearl.
A Magee police officer stopped Stanford for careless driving and noticed he had blood on his clothes and in his vehicle and contacted the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department.
Stanford is being held in the county jail.
