PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A cook who sustained serious injuries while trying to burn down the Portland restaurant he worked at has been sentenced to one month shy of six years in prison for arson.

The Oregonian reports (https://is.gd/2rGx9w ) that 31-year-old Marcus Tyler was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to last November. He withdrew his plea Wednesday because he later admitted to prosecutors that he falsely claimed his accomplice started the fire.

Prosecutors say Tyler was unhappy he wasn’t getting a cut of wait staff tips, which prompted him to use his key to enter Pal’s Shanty Tavern in November 2013. After setting fire to the restaurant he slipped on gasoline on the floor, setting his clothes ablaze.

The two-alarm fire gutted the bar and caused Pal’s Shanty to permanently close.
