LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - Larry Nance Jr. is the first Wyoming Cowboy taken in the NBA draft since Theo Ratliff in 1995.

Nance was selected Thursday by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 27th pick of the first round.

He is the 28th Cowboy overall to be drafted into the NBA.

Nance says he’s faced a lot of adversity in his life but he believes it has made him stronger.

Nance recovered from a torn knee ligament during his career in Laramie, and he still fights through Crohn’s disease.

Ratliff was selected with the 18th pick in the first round of the 1995 draft by the Detroit Pistons. Bill Garnett is the highest Cowboy ever drafted after he was picked fourth in the first round by the Dallas Mavericks in the 1982 draft.
