PHOENIX (AP) - A Phoenix police officer is being accused of sexual misconduct involving a woman in his custody.

Phoenix police said Saturday that 40-year-old Timothy Morris immediately resigned following his arrest for one count each of sexual assault and kidnapping.

Police spokesman Jonathan Howard says a 23-year-old woman told officers that Morris contacted her around 3:30 a.m. Friday about a misdemeanor arrest warrant.

The woman alleges the two engaged in an act of sexual contact before Morris released her without arresting her.

Investigators arrested Morris at his Pinal County home.

They say he admitted involvement in the incident during a police interview. He will be transferred from a jail in Pinal County to Maricopa County.

It is not known if Morris, a seven-year veteran of the department, has an attorney.
